This could be for your business, your home, your office, or just a new place you might want to frequent with your family and friends, or colleagues—there are many reasons you might want to drop a pin in a location on Google Maps. Google Maps is one of the most advanced GPS applications across platforms and devices, and it supports a whole lot of features that make it very easy to use.
One of the top interesting features of this GPS navigation app is “Pins,” which allow you to place pins in specific coordinates for different reasons, best known to you. So, how do you get on with placing these pins? That’s what we’ll share below.
How to Drop a Pin on Google Maps on Mobile
Before we delve deep into the guide, it is important to let you know that any pin you drop on Google Maps without saving it to a list will disappear the moment you exit the app or close the web tab (if you’re on PC). So, it is important to remember to save your dropped pins to a list. Google Maps lists can be created on the fly, and there are defaults already. Now to the main thing:
- Step One: Open the Google Maps app on your Android or iOS device, and make sure the device has an active internet connection.
- Step Two: Identify the location/coordinate you wish to drop a pin at; you can use the search bar to find the location, or zoom out on the map interface.
- Step Three: Tap and hold on the exact location where you want to drop the pin. A red pin will appear on the map, marking the location, then you can release your finger from your device’s screen. Look to the bottom of the display screen, and you will see a panel that displays the details about the pinned location. Slide it up to view all details, including the address and coordinates.
- Step Four: That’s it, the pin is dropped, now you need to save it or share it with someone for directions. Tap on “Save” or “Share” depending on which you wish to do. You can create a new list to save the pinned location.
How to Drop a Pin on Google Maps on PC
If you’re on your PC, all you need is open the Google Maps website and click on the location you want to drop a pin. For PC users, you don’t necessarily need to save the pin, unless you wish to, and you can quickly share the pinned location by clicking the share button. The process when you’re on a computer is a lot easier and faster, as you can quickly scan more aerial in a quick scan.
How to Remove a Dropped Pin
If for any reason you wish to remove a PIN you previously saved, the steps are simple:
- On mobile: Tap on the pin, then select “Remove” or simply tap elsewhere on the map (if the pin isn’t saved yet).
- On desktop: Click on another location or refresh the page to remove the pin.
What More?
Dropping a pin on Google Maps can be helpful in various scenarios, such as finding precise locations, sharing locations with a friend or family, marking out favorite places around or beyond your neighborhood, and many other reasons.
However, you can’t drop multiple pins at the same time; you will only have to drop the pins one after another and make sure to save them to a list. The coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the pinned locations will be shown to you in the details panel. Happy touring!
